Onion Chutney is a simple and quick preparation that can be used as accompaniments or as sauce with almost any dish in lunch or dinner. This Onion Chutney Recipe is sweet, tangy, sour and spicy which will leave you energized and refreshing. Try this with any vegetable dishes or when you have not-so-special items in your menu. This is primarily a south-indian preparation ideal with dosa or idli, however can be tried with any other dishes as well.
Ingredients for preparing Onion Chutney
- 3 medium size onion
- 1 small size tomato
- few mustard seeds
- few fried curry leaves
- 5 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- Few cashew nuts
- 1 tablespoon sugar or jaggery.
How to make Onion Chutney
Take 3 medium size onion, 1 small size tomato and cut them into square pieces.
Take a frying pan and put 2 tablespoon of oil, heat for 2 mins.
Then put 3 dry red chili, when it starts to splutter, put square pieces of onion and tomato with salt to taste and 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, fry for few mins. till the onions and tomato are half golden brown in colour.
Add 1 teaspoon of sugar or jaggery and few cashew nuts. cook for 2 mins.
Switch off the cooking gas and put all the contents in a mixing jar and grind them in a smooth paste.
Take same pan heat 3 tablespoon of vegetable oil and put few mustard seeds and few curry leaves. When it starts spluttering put the grind paste (Step 5) and cook till oil separates from the paste.
This is a sweet and sour chutney so add salt and sugar if required.
Sweet and sour chutney is ready to serve with Dosa or Idli or any other dishes of your choice in lunch or dinner
