French Fries (Indian Style) are one of those items which you cannot simply stop at one. Well, this recipe is not the original french fry recipe which requires to fry the potatoes twice. This French Fries (Indian Style) Recipe is a customized one with a personal touch. This is a great snacks time which can be served as sides with sandwiches or just ketchup. Try this fried dish when you have a crave for something fried. This is an extra crispy preparation which you will love to crunch anytime.
- 3 large (and preferably long) potatoes
- 3 tablespoon flour
- 1 tablespoon cornflour
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds (for that extra crispiness)
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder / flakes
- 1 cup vegetable oil
How to prepare French Fries (Indian Style)
Take 3 large (and preferably long) potatoes and wash them properly.
Cut each potato into 4 equal parts. Then take each part and cut longitudinally to have long slices of potatoes. Repeat for the remaining 3 parts.
Wash the sliced potatoes well and keep them in ice cold water for about 1 hr.
Take another container, add 3 tablespoon flour, 1 tablespoon cornflour, 1 teaspoon poppy seeds, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon red chili powder / flakes, salt to taste.
Add little by little water and make thick batter.
After 1hr, take out the sliced potatoes out of ice cold water and pat dry them using tissue paper and then add them to the batter (Step 5).
Keep the potatoes mixed with batter in freezer for another 1 hr.
After 1 hr, take a flat non-stick frying pan, add 1 cup vegetable oil and heat it.
Add the batter dipped sliced potatoes one by one to the hot oil, do not overcrowd the slices, they should not stick to each other.
Fry in low flame until golden brown.
Take the french fries out of the frying pan and keep on tissue paper for soaking extra oil.
Serve the French Fries (Indian Style) hot and with ketchup as a side dish.
