Samosa is a common Indian snacks item that is often served with tea in the evening. Normally these are available in a confectioner’s store or road-side food stalls. Here I am going to tell you how to prepare this appetizer at home.

Ingredients

  • 4 boiled potato
  • Raw Peanuts
  • 2 inch of chopped ginger
  • 3-4 chopped green chilli
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2-3 pieces of grated cauliflower
  • handful of green peas
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala powder
  • 2 cups of maida (All Purpose Flour)
  • Ghee
  • Vegetable oil
  • Hing Powder (Asafoetida)
  • salt

Preparation time : 10 mins

Cooking time : 20 mins

Serves: 3

Steps

1. Boil 4 potato in a micro oven (or boiling water) for 8 mins, then peel off the potato skin and mash the potato and keep aside.

2. In a non-stick frying pan heat 2 teaspoon vegetable oil and heat for 3mins in a medium heat, then add handful of raw peanuts and fry till it becomes golden brown and keep aside

3. In the same frying pan and in the same oil add a pinch of hing, 2inch of chopped ginger, 3-4 chopped green chilli, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder, 2-3 pieces of grated cauliflower, handful of green peas and salt to taste.

4. Fry all the ingredients (step 3) for 2mins, then add 1 teaspoon of garam masala powder into it and then cook for another 3 mins. Stir continuously otherwise it will stick at the bottom of the frying pan.

5. Put the mashed potato (step 1) into the frying pan (step 4) and mix well and stir for 2 mins. The preparation of stuffing is finished.

6.Take a bowl put 2 cups of maida (All Purpose Flour) and add 1.5 tablespoons of ghee onto it and mix well with hands, then add water little by little and make a soft dough (ideal for stuffing).

7. Make the dough into small size ball and roll the dough into 4inch thin round shape circle, cut it into 2 equal parts like a semi circle.

8. Take one semi circle and wet your hand with water and fold it like a cone, press tightly on the corners of the cone with water.

9. Put 2 tablespoons of stuffing into the cone and sealed the corners tightly with wet hands.

10. Take a non- stick frying pan, put 5-6 tablespoons of ghee and heat for 4 mins, then fry the cones in medium heat until it becomes golden brown.

Samosa is ready. Serve hot with Coriander Chutney or Tomato Ketchup.

    • @Jiya: You will need to mix the flour very thoroughly with ghee (step 6). Also fry till golden brown. This will make it soft and crispy.

      • WELL IM ALLERGIC TO GHEE, EARLIER I HAVE TRIED MAKING SAMOSA COVERING WITH OIL, BUT IT TURNED OUT HARD, NOT AS FLAKY & SOFT. WONDER WHAT WENT WRONG ?

        • Well Jiya… in that case, try to use more vegetable oil while mixing it with all-purpose flour (and mix it very well). The more oil/ghee you put, the softer the dough (and the samosa) will be…
