Bhel Puri is a great evening snacks that is very popular “street-food” all over India. But you do not have to always get this item from street for yourself or your family. You can make Bhel Puri right at home! The recipe for Bhel Puri is actually easy and with a little home made touch, you can even surpass the street side taste. The home made bhel puri will win the hearts of your family. You can custom prepare the Bhel Puri too (with varying level of spices/chili/tamarind/sweet chutney).

Ingredients

  • 1 medium size chopped onion
  • 1 small boiled potato cut it into small pieces
  • 1 small tomato pieces chopped into small pieces
  • Handful of boiled red chana (after overnight soaking)
  • 2-3 chopped green chili
  • Few chopped coriander leaves
  • Hand-full of roasted almond
  • 3 teaspoons of Red chutney (made up of tamarind and sugar)
  • Salt to taste
  • 100 gm bhel puri mix (available at market) or even plain mamra will do, just add sev to the plain mamra
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • few drops of mustard oil
  • 1/4th teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4th teaspoon roasted cumin powder

Preparation Time: 15 min
Serves: 2

How to make Home Made Bhel Puri

1. In a bowl put 1 medium size chopped onion, 1 small boiled potato cut it into small pieces, 1 small tomato pieces chopped into small pieces, 2-3 chopped green chili, handful of boiled red chana, few chopped coriander leaves and  hand-full of roasted almond mix well.

2. Preparation of Red Chutney

In another frying pan add 1 cups of water and bring it to boil for 2 mins, then put 1 teaspoon tamarind into the water and mix well so that tamarind dissolves in water. Put 7-8 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder into the water and bring for boil till the excess water goes out and chutney becomes thick and keep aside.

Remove the tamarind pulp after squeezing with fingers from the mixture and the red chutney is ready to be added to Bhel Puri.

3. Now put 3 teaspoons of red chutney (made up of tamarind and sugar), salt to taste, and 100 gm bhel puri mix (available at market), 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, 1/4th teaspoon chaat masala, 1/4th teaspoon roasted cumin powder and few drops of mustard oil and mix well.

Bhel Puri is ready to serve for evening snacks.

    I always LOVE bhel puri made in any way in any restaurant…My favourite chat food is also my favouriite comfort food. Anytime I wantto enjoy a movie…all I want is bhel puri!!!
