Datha Baigan SabjiBaigan Datha ka Khatta is an interesting recipe making use of baigan (Brinjal or Eggplant) and datha (shojne data in Bengali) with addition of the sour element which is tamarind. Now this recipe has a sour taste which may be loved by most but may not be favourite for others. The Baigan Shojne Datha ka Khatta recipe is a dry one ideal with roti or paratha. You can also serve this with rice but you will also need to prepare dal.


Ingredients

  • 300gm datha (sojne data)
  • 1 big size brinjal (baigan/eggplant)
  • 3-4 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • pinch of panch phoran
  • 1 broken dry red chili
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • Little red chili powder
  • Little Tamarind

Preparation Time: 25 min
Cooking Time: 20 min
Serves: 6

How to make Baigan Shojne Datha ka Khatta

1. Take 300gm datha (Shojne Datha) and break them into medium size pieces and peel the thin layers around the datha. Wash it in running water.

2. Take 1 big size brinjal (baigan or eggplant) and cut it into small size pieces, wash it properly.

3. In a non-stick frying pan heat 3-4 tablespoon of vegetable oil, put pinch of panch phoran, 1 broken dry red chili. When it starts splutter put datha pieces with little salt and 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder into it and fry till it become little brown in color.

4. Now put brinjal pieces into the pan with salt to taste and little water, close the lid of the pan. Cook till brinjal and datha becomes fully tender.

5. Put little red chili powder if required, then in a bowl put little water and soak tamarind for 5 mins and squeeze the tamarind.

6. At last put only tamarind water into the the pan and cook for 5 mins.

Baigan Data ka khata is ready to serve hot.
