This post is written by my husband Sudipta who watched this movie very carefully.

Just by looking at the title, theme and the promo posters, at that instant I was sure about the Hollywood source of this movie – “21″. I was reluctant to watch this movie in the beginning thinking that this would be just another bollywood re-make like “Daddy Cool”. Then I thought to give it a watch just to check how good was the “copying”. And I was surprised.

Teen Patti’s theme is definitely from the movie “21″ where predictability was boiled down to calculations and the way a  group of teacher-students were literally profiting from the Casinos. But there are a lot of differences with the way the film later developed. Moreover there were no explanation of the “technique” (not even a simple clue) nor concrete background of the characters which left me guessing. At one point, I was absolutely lost in the series of “events” without the idea of what is being conveyed and the meaning/connection. There is no central theme, which makes this movie quite weak. At the end, the movie loses it’s punch as I found that it went from “new theory” to gambling to sentimental and emotional links to money.

The acting was not bad (in some scenes, it was more than what was necessary). The new introductions like Shraddha Kapoor performed well. Amitabh Bachhan gave a good performance as usual. The songs were ok and somewhat matching the theme of casino worlds.

Overall a watchable movie but if you are looking for a meaningful and coherent movie, this is definitely not the one. Watch this casually over evening tea.
